Basic Psychological Research in the Arab Middle East

Basic Psychological Research in the Arab Middle East

Saturday, April 18, 2020 (9:00am-8:00pm)

In celebration of our newly launched psychology program, the American University of Sharjah invites you to participate in a small group meeting bringing together scholars conducting basic psychological research in the Arab Middle East. This workshop-oriented small group meeting will allow researchers to share current developments in their work with Arab participants, allowing for the creation of more cohesive, collaborative, and integrative models of Arab psychology. We are specifically looking to highlight experimental work that tests a priori hypotheses about thoughts, emotions, or behaviors, or uses cultural models to make predictions about similarities or differences in cognitive, social, or developmental processes in the Arab world. The language of the conference is English.

All participants will present their work, and are expected to stay for the complete duration to fully engage, give feedback, and think collaboratively about critical issues associated with conducting basic research in the Middle East. We will save a significant amount of time for researchers to speak informally in the interest of fostering collaborations or informal ties among researchers and institutions.

The conference is sponsored by AUS. Although we cannot offer funds for transportation or accommodation, we can help participants book nearby hotels at a discounted rate. We will also provide a certificate of participation and conference program for anyone who can seek reimbursement from grant or professional development funds.

Please note that all participants will need to complete security clearance to attend the conference. This includes completing a form and submitting a list of identification and education documents to AUS in advance of the conference. We will submit all documents to the government on your behalf.

To apply, please provide your personal details and a 500 word abstract using the following link before November 15, 2019: Application  Decision emails will be sent by December 1, 2019.
